II. Meaning of Cublak-cublak suweng song

1.      Cublak Suweng = tempat Suweng. Suweng adalah anting perhiasan wanita Jawa. Jadi, Cublak-cublak suweng, artinya ada tempat harta berharga, yaitu Suweng (Suwung, Sepi, Sejati) atau Harta Sejati.

2.      Suwenge teng gelenter,

Suwenge Teng Gelenter = suweng berserakan. Harta Sejati itu berupa kebahagiaan sejati sebenarnya sudah ada berserakan di sekitar manusia.

3.      Mambu ketundhung gudel,

Mambu (baunya) Ketundhung (dituju) Gudel (anak Kerbau).

Maknanya, banyak orang berusaha mencari harta sejati itu. Bahkan orang-orang bodoh (diibaratkan Gudel) mencari harta itu dengan penuh nafsu ego, korupsi dan keserakahan, tujuannya untuk menemukan kebahagiaan sejati.

4. Pak empo lera-lere,

Pak empo (bapak ompong) Lera-lere (menengok kanan kiri). Orang-orang bodoh itu mirip orang tua ompong yang kebingungan. Meskipun hartanya melimpah, ternyata itu harta palsu, bukan Harta Sejati atau kebahagiaan sejati. Mereka kebingungan karena dikuasai oleh hawa nafsu keserakahannya sendiri.

5. Sopo ngguyu ndhelikake,

Sopo ngguyu (siapa tertawa) Ndhelikake (dia yg menyembunyikan). menggambarkan bahwa barang siapa bijaksana, dialah yang menemukan Tempat Harta Sejati atau kebahagian sejati. Dia adalah orang yang tersenyum-sumeleh dalam menjalani setiap keadaan hidup, sekalipun berada di tengah-tengah kehidupan orang-orang yang serakah.

6. Sir-sir pong dele kopong,

Sir (hati nurani) pong dele kopong (kedelai kosong tanpa isi). Artinya di dalam hati nurani yang kosong. Maknanya bahwa untuk sampai kepada Tempat Harta Sejati (Cublak Suweng) atau kebahagiaan sejati, orang harus melepaskan diri dari kecintaan pada harta benda duniawi, mengosongkan diri, rendah hati, tidak merendahkan sesama, serta senantiasa memakai rasa dan mengasah tajam Sir-nya / hati nuraninya.

untuk mencari harta janganlah menuruti hawa nafsu tetapi semuanya kembali ke hati nurani yang bersih. Tidak dipengaruhi hawa nafsu.. Dengan hati nurani akan lebih mudah menemukannya, tidak tersesat jalan hingga lupa akan akhirat.

a. Sejarah permainan
Kata “cublak” adalah sebuah kata kebiasan atau idium yang digunakan untuk sebuah permainan saling tebak, sedang kata suweng artinya adalah hiasan telinga (bukan anting anting atau giwang)(ayo lah) bermain tebak tebakan (sebuah) informasi yang sangat penting.
Cublak cublak suweng berasal dari Jawa timur. Permainan ini diciptakan oleh salah seorang wali songo yaitu Syekh Maulana Ainul Yakin atau yang biasa dikenal dengan Sunan Giri. Sunan giri menyebarkan agama islam di Indonesia khususnya pulau jawa dengan jalur kebudayaan. Maka ia menghadirkan syair cublak-cublak suweng ini yang akhirnya di jadikan permainan dikalangan anak-anak.

b. Karakteristi permainan
Permainan cublak cublak suweng berkisar antara 5-7 orang dengan umur berkisar 6-14 tahun. Bagi yang masih berumur 6 – 9 tahu adalah masih belajar, sedangkan bagi yang berumur 10 – 14 tahun adalah melatih adik-adiknya yang masih kecil. Permainan Cublak-cublak Suweng memerlukan perlengkapan seperti suweng (subang)

c. Cara bermain
Permainan ini dimainkan oleh beberapa anak/orang, tetapi minimal tiga orang. Akan tetapi lebih baik antara 6 sampai delapan orang. Tujuan dari permainan ini adalah Pak Empo menemukan anting (suweng) yang disembunyikan seseorang.

Pada awal permaianan beberapa orang berkumpul dan mengundi/ menentukan salah satu dari mereka untuk menjadi Pak Empo. Biasanya pengundiannya melalui pingsut/encon/undian biasa. Setelah ada yang berperan sebagai pak Empo. Maka mereka semua duduk melingkar. Sedangkan Pak Empo berbaring telungkup di tengah-tengah mereka. Masing-masing orang menaruh telapak tangannya menghadap ke atas di punggung pakEmpo.
Salah seorang dari mereka mengambil kerikil atau benda (benda ini dianggap sebagai anting). Lalu mereka semua bersama-sama menyanyikan cublak-cublak suweng sambil memutar kerikil dari telapak tangan yang satu ke yang lainnya. begitu terus sampai lagu tersebut dinyanyikan beberapa kali (biasanya 2-3 kali).

Setelah sampai di bait terakhir ...Sir-sir pong dele gosong pak Empo Bangun dan pemain lainnya pura-pura memegang kerikil. Tangan kanan dan kiri mereka tertutup rapat seperti menggenggam sesuatu. Hal ini untuk mengecoh pak Empo yang sedang mencari ”suwengnya”. Masing-masing pemain mengacungkan jari telunjuk dan menggesek-gesekkan telunjuk kanan dan kiri (gerakannya) persis seperti orang mengiris cabe. Mereka semua tetap menyanyikan Sir-sir pong dele gosong secara berulang-ulang sampai pak Empo menunjuk salah seorang yang dianggap menyembunyikan anting.


Ketika pak Empo salah menunjuk maka permainan dimulai dari awal lagi (pak Empo berbaring). Dan ketika pak Empo berhasil menemukan orang yang menyembunyikan antingnya maka orang tersebut berganti peran menjadi pak Empo. Permainan selesai ketika mereka sepakat menyelesaikannya.

d. Apa yang seru dari permainan ini?
Yang paling seru dari permainan ini adalah kita harus menebak siapa yang mencuri anting pak empo. Kita harus berhati - hati dalam menebak tahu siapa yang mencuri anting pa Empo . Sebab jika kita salah menebak maka kita akan dihukum seperti mengelilingi lapangan ataupun hukuman yang lainnya sesuai persetujuan para pemainnya.

Cublak-cublak suweng is a simple traditional game that usually played by javanese children in Indonesia. It’s simple because we don’t need complex equipments, just a small gravel. Although cublak-cublak suweng just a simple game, it has extraordinary meaning inside. The meaning are about value of responsibility, honesty, and moral message for not being greedy person. Every youth generation must have these values in their lives to make a better future.

Better future depend on how good the character of youth generation. A better youth generation must uphold good values throughout their lives. The important thing to make better character of youth generation, good values should be inculcated since we were child, so that it will remain until we grow up and not easily lost. There’s special thing of cublak-cublak suweng where children not only playing, but also learn to know about good values such as responsibility, honesty, and not being greedy. That’s a unique way to make children accept good values easier through traditional game, cublak-cublak suweng.

Cublak- cublak suweng is played by three or more children, one of them kneel on the floor and close his/her eyes while others sitting around and putting their hands on the back of child who is kneeling. They start to sing cublak-cublak suweng song together, at the same time a small gravel is moved from hand to hand. This is the song..

The child who kneel can’t open his/her eyes as song keep going. Right before it’s stop, the others must put the gravel on one of the player hand then they close their hands. The child who kneel must guess who hide the gravel is, if she/he can guessing correctly she/he can inverse position with the one who hide the gravel.

Cublak-cublak suweng is about everyone who is looking for treasure. There’s a place where the treasure was stored. This information has spread everywhere even narrow minded people already know, they think the treasure easily found, they just use their mind and carnality without consciences. In fact, they find the wrong treasure, in this case is empty hand. Wherease the other people who is wise use their minds dan consciences (having holy heart) so they can find the true treasure correctly.

Learning about responsibility, every child has important role and they responsible to do their roles. A child as a leader, moves the gravel from hand to hand. An other child kneel, close his/heer eyes, and guess where’s the gravel. The others responsible to keep person who hide the gravel as a secret. All of them responsible with their own role, so the game can keep going.

Learning about honesty, every child is requested to be honest. A child who kneel has to close his/her eyes (not cheating). A child who keeps the gravel has to admit whether the supposition is correct.

Learning about not being a greedy, we can take from the meaning of the cublak-cublak suweng song. The best way to search the gravel which represent treasure is by using mind and consciense, not affected by carnality such as stealing, do corruption, or taking the treasure that’s not your own.

Youth generation must have good values to make a better future. A better future, where’s everyone responsible to do his/her best for his/her life, country, and world. A better future, where’s we can believe to everyone, to your friends, to your leader, because we all honest people. A better future, where’s no stealing, no corruption, because of greedy people. To make this youth generation character, good values such as responsibility, honesty, and not being greedy should be inculcated since we were child. One of unique way to support that is through traditional game, cublak-cublak suweng.

f.how to play

preparation :
    3-5 children .
    One fruit grains / pebbles that can be grasped .

How to play :
    Gambreng and the losers being Mr. Empo . He lay face down in the middle , the other children sit in a circle . Open your palms facing up and place it on the back of Mr. Empo .
    One child holds seed / gravel and moved from one palm to another palm - Cublek accompanied by the song Cublak Suweng . " Cublak cublek Suweng , suwenge ting gelenter , Güdel ketundung tainted . Mr. empo lirak - lyrics , would greet delekke sing . Sir sir pong dele scorched , charred dele pong sir sir " .
    In the sentence " Sapa want to sing delekke " submit beans / pebbles into the hands of a child to be hidden in the hand .
    At the end of the song , all the children took both their hands , pretending to hide a pebble , while gesticulating .
    Empo pack up and guess who's in the hands of seeds / gravel hidden . If guessed correctly , the child holding seeds / gravel turns into Mr. Empo . If wrong , sir Empo back to its original position and the game is repeated again .
